I’m always delighted when a songwriter creates lyrics that are full of poetry. They are wise, elegant or simply so true. Here are three my favorites:
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” – John Lennon
“Losing love is like a window in your heart. Everybody sees you’re blown apart; everybody feels the wind blow.” – Paul Simon
“You’re in my blood like holy wine. You taste so bitter and so sweet. Oh I could drink a case of you, still I’d be on my feet.” –Joni Mitchell
And then, of course, who could overlook that bard of booty shakin’, the Godfather of Soul, James Brown:
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAW!
Oh, say it now.
Get up ‘offa that thing, and dance ‘till you feel better
I’ll bet you never thought of James Brown in among poets, but clearly the man had insight. Ok, so maybe not all of his songs had the same hidden wisdom (I’m looking your way “Hot pants” and “I feel like being a sex machine”). But that’s what makes it so special when you find little jewels like the one above. Dancing does make you feel better.
So, get up ‘offa that thing, and dance ’till you feel better. I know I will.
