I began this gallery in 2007 because I realized I needed a social motivator to continue making art and writing. Blogging seemed like the most natural forum to continue sharing what I make and to motivate me to make it.
[Yes, that’s a cocktail in my hand, made with a tiny rubber chicken. Pinkies up!]
About me: I need to draw, paint, print and write. I’m not saying I just enjoy these things; it’s actually a requirement for proper functioning. It took some time for me to figure out that the creative act is an indispensable part of my life (and most people’s lives, for that matter… they just haven’t recognized it yet). Eventually I figured out that the more I do it, the better I feel. I also love dancing. I was classically trained and still take adult dance classes. Honestly, I just love moving to music. Friends and family have noticed that I will shamelessly shimmy to any beat, anywhere. I’m also passionate about food and I consider croissants a major food group. Many of my favorite dishes call for sautéing things in lots of butter (bread, mushrooms, herbs, garlic… you get the idea).
I grew up in New Mexico, a lovely and truly enchanting place. Although I’ve lived in California for over a decade, I still think the Northern California landscape is like a fairy tale wonderland. I adore the trees, lakes and wildlife that surround my home.
Most people don’t know this, but I prefer fruit (tarts) to chocolate. They also don’t know that I’m Hispanic. My pale complexion is irrelevant. We come in all colors, remember? Something else you might like to know about me is that I’m a teacher. Teaching writing skills to adults and teens is really satisfying for me and that’s the primary way I make a living these days. Some other things I enjoy and would like to do more often are play the fiddle, read sci-fi novels, sit in a sunny garden, and hug my two favorite guys.
